Wailoa Dredging Set for Late July

The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has awarded a contract to American Marine Corporation to dredge the entrance channel of Wailoa Small Boat Harbor and a portion of the inner basin to depth of 8.0′ below MLLW (mean lower low water level).

Dredging of the entrance channel of Wailoa Small Boat harbor is scheduled to begin toward the end of July. Project cost will be $1 million.

The total quantity of material to be dredged under the contract is 8,900 cubic yards. The dredged material will be stockpiled in a dewatering basin above the beach next to the rock groin.

After the dredged material has been tested and approved by the Dept. of Health Solid and Hazardous Waste Branch for reuse as general fill material, DLNR plans to distribute the dredge material to various State agencies to use as fill material at various state facilities.

The contractor will be mobilizing some equipment to the site this week and next, but will not begin dredging for several weeks more.
