Badsey Brook Project on Track for Completion in 2018

The construction work continues to progress well on the Badsey Brook flood risk management scheme, reports the Environment Agency.

The Badsey Brook scheme is aimed to reduce flood risk for approximately 290 properties along the Broadway, Childswickham and Murcot.

The project includes construction of a flood storage area which will be able to hold up to 135,000 cubic meters of water upstream of Cheltenham Road in Broadway. Earth embankments and a control structure will also be constructed to limit the amount of water flowing down the brook during periods of high rainfall.

Since October 2017, the following works have been completed or are in progress:

  • Laying gravel down and creating clay core embankments, ready for the construction of the embankment structure;
  • Starting the earth works for the construction of the embankment structure;
  • Starting the permanent sewer diversion works;
  • Ongoing concrete pours continue which will complete the control structure.

The Environment Agency and the contractor, Jackson Hyder, are still on target for the construction stage of the scheme to be completed in Spring 2018, subject to weather conditions.
