Western Dredging Association (WEDA) will today, January 14, hold their next webinar on the Houston Ship Channel Widening and Deepening Update.

USACE

The webinar will be presented by:

  • Charlie Jenkins, Sr. Director, Port of Houston Authority;
  • Captain J.J. Plunkett, Retired. U.S. Coast Guard;
  • Dana Cheney, Vice President, Gahagan and Bryant Associates, Inc.;
  • Neil McLellan, Sr. Project Manager at HDR.

The moderator of the event will be Lori Brownell, Director of Channel Improvement, Port of Houston Authority, and zoom facilitator is Kathryn Thomas, Vice President, ANAMAR Environmental Consulting, Inc.

The Port Houston Commission, at its November 2019 meeting, awarded two professional services contracts, one to TC&B/GBA, a Joint Venture of Turner Collie & Braden Inc. and Gahagan & Bryant Associates, Inc., and one to HDR Engineering, Inc., to provide professional services for engineering, design (including Pre-construction Engineering and Design [PED] services), project coordination, and other general assistance to accelerate field work and design for the Houston Ship Channel Expansion Channel Improvement Project (HSC-ECIP).

These design contracts were awarded to enable acceleration of the USACE design and implementation processes associated with a traditional, federally authorized navigation improvement project.

Under the accelerated plan, construction of the HSC-ECIP will begin in 2021 with the major project components completed in 2024 (versus USACE normal construction schedule starting in 2024).

The webinar will provide an overview of the HSC history and national importance, capture the Houston Pilots perspective of navigation the current and future channel conditions, pertinent design elements, and upcoming project implementation schedule.
