Sand delivery recommences at West Beach, SA

The Government of South Australia announced today that delivery of sand will recommence at West Beach next week to protect the beach from erosion.

As reported, between July and September 2022, approximately 50,000 cubic metres of sand will be delivered to West Beach via the Adelaide Sailing Club.

Department for Environment and Water Manager Coast and Marine Murray Townsend said that adding large volumes of sand to West Beach will significantly improve the condition of the beach.

“It’s important that local residents are aware of the work in the coming months,” Dr Townsend said. “The sand not only benefits West Beach, but also other beaches, including Henley Beach South and Henley Beach, as the sand naturally moves north.

Dr Townsend also added that it is planned for an additional 50,000 cubic metres of sand to be delivered to West Beach in autumn next year.

The department will also continue to monitor erosion hotspots on the Adelaide coastline including Semaphore South, Semaphore Park, and Henley Beach South.
