This work is part of dredging work in several areas of the port to clean mooring facilities and even remove contaminated material from the bottom of the sea.

As a result of this program, areas on the inside of the Grand Harbour will become more accessible to larger ships, both passenger and cargo.

Works are being done at a depth of seven metres and will be increased to ten metres.

The dredging will continue in the inner part of the harbour and also at Ras Hanzir, in the area of Kordin.

Before the dredging began, several surveys were carried out to identify what is on the seabed as well as underneath.

Geotechnical studies were also carried out and samples of the material in the area were even examined before being lifted from the bottom of the sea.

In the coming months, Infrastructure Malta will also work on expanding the piers for passenger ships at Pinto Beach.
