The project includes dredging sections of both Big Fishweir Creek and Little Fishweir Creek, as explained by USACE’s David Ruderman.

Big Fishweir Creek is located approximately four miles to the south of downtown Jacksonville. It enters the St. Johns River, just north of the Ortega River.

The habitat in the creek bottom has degraded due to the effects of development and weather events on sediment. The area is not suitable for swimming or fishing.

The transportation of dredged material from Little Fishweir Creek and the main channel will be carried out through the use of a barge to the Bartram Island Disposal Area.
