Largest dredging job in Kokosing’s history

Earlier this week, Kokosing announced that the company’s Mid-Atlantic Marine Division has completed dredging of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal (C&D Canal).

Primarily working from early fall in 2022 to this past spring, the dredge and unloader crews worked around the clock and put in over 70,000 man-hours to complete this project, the company said.

This resulted in the removal of over 1 million cubic yards of dredged material from the C&D Canal.

The company also added that yardage total marks the largest dredging job, by volume, in Kokosing’s history.

Built in the 1820s and upgraded a couple of times since then, C&D Canal connects the Delaware River with the Chesapeake Bay in the states of Delaware and Maryland.

The Canal needs routine maintenance to clear sediment that settles and creates shoals, which is the task of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District.
