The upgrade, which includes the removal of the damaged road and seawall, the provision of a new access road to link the parking areas etc., is scheduled for completion towards the end of September 2023.

“The Fisherman’s Lane project will see this iconic coastal facility restored and upgraded. The City recognises Fisherman’s Lane as an important recreational landmark and believes this project demonstrates its commitment to improving priority coastal infrastructure for the benefit of the local community,” said Alderman Eddie Andrews, the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment.

Once completed, wave action will continue to reshape the dune separating the new road and picnic area from the waves until it reaches its equilibrium profile.

According to the City of Cape Town, this is part of the natural coastal processes.
