The works will take 27 months to complete and will involve building a sea embankment, which will form the first enclosure for depositing materials from the dredging of the port docks, the navigation channel and other works in progress, such as the Adossat wharf or the new mooring points of the Energy wharf.

The embankment will delimit an area of 44.7 hectares between the South and Prat wharves and will be up to 16 metres deep, allowing it to be filled with nearly 6.3 million m3 of materials and will make it possible to start work on the terraces of the future Catalunya wharf.

Also, the works include preparing a terrace for storing and managing the works material.

The Port of Barcelona launched this tender one year ago after the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge issued the favorable report of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of the future enclosures on January 2024.

Work is set to start this summer.
