Birse Civils Completes Flood Protection Project on Lincolnshire’s Coast (UK)

Birse Civils has recently completed its annual protection of Lincolnshire’s coast line and flood defence for the Environment Agency as part of its ‘Lincshore 2010 – 2015 Framework Contract. The project involves sand being dredged offshore, shipped towards the shore and pumped onto the beach.

Lincshore is an essential project which requires 400,000 cubic metres of sand to be pumped onto 20 kilometres of beaches to repair damage done by winter erosion. The sand was pumped ashore by the highly-specialised dredging vessel, Vlaanderen XX, raising beach levels in order to protect people and property from flooding while maintaining the popular tourist beaches of Lincolnshire.
