USA: EPA Unveils New Bedford Harbor Cleanup Plans and Environmental Data

A new Environmental Protection Agency website detailing the past, present and future of the New Bedford Harbor cleanup could be used a model for other Superfund-specific sites across the country.

The New Bedford site, launched earlier this month, centralizes documents, slide show presentations, studies, charts and graphs that were previously spread across cyberspace. It includes seafood monitoring data, plans regarding air monitoring and a map of the targeted 2011 dredge area.

At least two manufacturing sites along the harbor pumped PCBs into the harbor from the 1940s to the 1970s. The harbor is a designated Superfund site and the government cleanup has lasted years.
