Tompkins Channel Dredging Project Begins December 12 (USA)

SPI awarded a Tompkins Channel dredging project to Rodriguez Brothers Dredging Co. of Baytown who submitted the lowest bid.

The dredging project is planned to commence on December 12 and is expected to take up to 60 days.

Around 11,000 cubic yards of silt were accumulated into Tompkins Channel in 2008, following Hurricane Dolly. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the City of South Padre Island are financing the project.

Tompkins Channel will be open during the whole project.
