Canada: Lingan Harbour Association Calls for Dredging

Current condition of the Lingan Harbour, a small Cape Breton harbour, causes major concern to the local group.

The Lingan Harbour Association says the small community harbour, northeast of Sydney, is filling up with sand from Dominion beach.

Our harbour hasn’t been dredged since 1978 and another dredging is long overdue,” stated the New Waterford Fish and Game Association.

Mark Eyking, the Liberal MP for Sydney-Victoria, says the entire ecosystem will change if the area continues to fill with sand.

This extra sand is not only affecting fishermen, but also the tides and fish habitat,” concluded President William Pembroke.
