Public Hearing on Muskegon Lake Dredging Scheduled for March 29

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has scheduled a public hearing on Melching Inc.’s application for a Muskegon Lake dredging permit for its property at 2400 Lakeshore in Muskegon.

State officials will take comments on the dredging application at 7 p.m. March 29 at Muskegon City Hall in the commission chambers, 933 Terrace.

This informational session will allow citizens the opportunity to express their views on the issue, and the public record on the hearing will remain open for additional comments for 10 days after the hearing date.

The dredging is to bring the water depth to 24 feet on the west end of the property. Dredging would begin 40 feet from shore and continue out an average of 80 feet into the lake to accomplish such a depth, according to the application.
