USA: Ninigret Pond Dredging Successfully Completed

Ninigret Pond dredging project has been completed before its deadline and under budget.

The maintenance dredging work was undertaken by the coastal council in cooperation with the town of Charlestown as part of the South Coast Restoration Project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started dredging the basin in 2004 and it accounted for the first phase of the restoration project. These latest undertakings started on February 2 and were finished on March 2 although they were scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.

Dan Goulet of the Coastal Resources Management Council has stated that 75,000 cubic yards of sand were dredged from the pond and moved onto the beach and approximately 57,000 cubic yards of the dredged sand was from the basin, reports The Westerly Sun.
