Indonesia: Government Plans to Dredge Kresek River

Jakarta Provincial Government plans to normalize the Kresek River by dredging up the mud and building sluice gate and pumps to minimize inundations, especially when heavy rain pours.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said Kresek River is one of many rivers that will be normalized in rivers and riverbanks normalization program which currently in tender process, Berita Jakarta reports.

“The program is currently in tender phase, while the work will begin this year. The budget for the program reaches Rp 1.5 trillion which came from regional and central government funds,” stated Fauzi when visiting RW 07, Lagoa, Koja, North Jakarta.

North Jakarta Mayor Bambang Sugiyono uttered that besides Kresek River, Koja Dam will also be normalized.
