Canada: New Hope for Owen Sound Harbour

According to owensoundsuntimes.com, MP Larry Miller’s new role as chairman of the standing committee on transport, infrastructure and communities should help as he continues to be involved with trying to get the Owen Sound harbour dredged.

“Getting the harbour dredged is something I have been working on and will continue to regardless of being on this committee, but it should help,” Miller said Thursday. “The minister of transport Denis Lebel is a guy I have a lot of respect for and we are good friends so it is going to be a very good working relationship.”

The city wants the harbour dredged because it hasn’t been done in 30 years and is filling up with silt that is threatening the commercial viability of the port.

Without dredging, the harbour’s commercial future is at risk, city and industry officials say.
