Sungai Besut Dredging Project Gets Boost

The government has agreed to allocate RM250 million to deepen the Sungai Besut estuary for the fishing and tourism industries.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had approved the allocation for the project which was expected to be implemented early next year.

“The Prime Minister had agreed to the project to deepen the estuary of Sungai Besut, which had long been requested, at a cost of RM250 million to facilitate fishermen and tourists,” he said after performing the ground-breaking for the construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Alor Peroi Tuesday.

He said the allocation was a long term initiative, and for a start, RM50,000 would be allocated to appoint consultants to carry out a detailed study before the project was implemented in six months.
