Portsmouth Coastal Scheme About to Begin

A massive flood protection scheme for the north of Portsea Island is due to start next month after Portsmouth City Council was awarded almost £44 million for the work.

The scheme will cover a stretch of coast from Tipner, in the west, to Milton Common, in the east, and will take about 10 years to complete. The project is designed to reduce the risk of coastal flooding and erosion over the next 100 years.

The scheme area has been divided into seven sections and work will be carried out according to priority.

This development program is being carried out by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership on behalf of the council.

A coastal defense scheme for Southsea seafront is also being developed.
