St Mary’s Harbor Dredging Wrapped Up

Dredging works at St Mary’s Harbor are now finished, reported the Harbor on its Twitter page two days ago.

The dredging was part of an overall project to improve the sea link between the mainland and the Isles of Scilly. The project included carrying out pier widening, dredging and improving freight handling facilities at St Mary’s.

The existing passenger and freight vessels are coming to the end of their economic lives but there is a lack of suitable alternative replacement vessels due to the shallow draft requirements of the Harbor. The performed works will increase the available water depth at the Harbor, providing flexibility in future vessel choice.

St Mary’s Harbor improvement project has been developed by Cornwall Council in consultation with the Isles of Scilly, Duchy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company.
