ICE to Hold Managed Realignment Lecture
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) will be the organizer of the Managed Realignment Lecture 2015 in London.
Managed realignment is an approach that involves altering the location of the line of defense against coastal, estuarine or fluvial flooding.
The event will highlight two managed realignment schemes, drawing out the key learning points for application to future projects:
- Alkborough on the Humber Estuary is an example of a large scale realignment specifically designed to achieve a reduction in flood risk elsewhere;
- Medmerry on the Kent coast is a recent example of a large scale realignment to create intertidal habitat as replacement habitat for flood defense strategies.
The lecture will take place on Monday, September 28th at the ICE London office.
