Kelowna Dredging Starts

Business & Finance

The Cook Road boat launch dredging scheme is officially underway, the City of Kelowna announced.

Environmental mitigation and site operations require a complete boat launch closure to accommodate measures for protecting the environment and surrounding infrastructure.

The sand will be stored onsite for dewatering and then relocated to the south shoreline of Rotary Beach, closest to Manteo Resort.

Work is expected to be completed by end of November.

Background

Cook Road boat launch operations have been affected by high volumes of sand moving from aggressively from Mission Creek.

Approvals from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources have been received to begin dredging when it will have the least impact to spawning habitat as outlined in the BC Water Act.

Removing this significant accumulation of sand from the area is complex and requires measures to protect the environment and surrounding infrastructure.
