USACE: Mile Point Project Starts in January

Business & Finance

Starting in January 2016 and continuing through November 2016, Manson Construction Co. will construct the Mile Point Training Wall Reconfiguration Project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

This project will reroute the navigable waters in the Chicopit Bay and the Inter-Coastal Waterway system.

Several changes will occur in the waterway, including removing some existing navigable waters.

Large dredging equipment in the waterway during construction will also affect navigation, USACE said.

The scheme will help improve navigation on the St. Johns River, increasing commerce efficiencies. Added project benefits include restoring local, historic channel flow and increasing marsh habitat by up to 34 acres more than the mitigation requirement.

Located on the St. Johns River near Mayport, the Mile Point project combines relocation and reconfiguration of an existing stone (training) wall, restoration of Great Marsh Island and creation of a flow improvement channel in Chicopit Bay.
