DIMI Congress Deltas & Ports of the Future in Delft

Deltas, Infrastructures and Mobility Initiative (DIMI) congress, named Deltas & Ports of the Future: towards new synergy of Delta Technology, Spatial Design and Governance, will take place on 28 January, 2016, at the Aula, TU Delft.

“This congress aims to discuss how we can develop ‘smart combinations’ of flood defense systems with other important societal issues,” the organizers said.

The Netherlands have a long tradition in this respect. The Zuiderzeeworks (built after the flood in the Zuiderzee of 1916, 100 years ago) were a smart combination of a new flood defense system with extension and modernization of agriculture in the Netherlands.

The Delta works, built after the storm surge of 1953, functioned as an important contribution to the policy to build an industrial economy and to distribute welfare and population more equally on the national territory.

The congress will include;

Knowledge market

  • Presentation student projects – book presentations – demonstration;
  • Waterviewer – photo exhibition – book market.

Workshops

  • Ports of the Future – Delta Barners – The New Delta – Building with Nature – IJsselmeer Area – The Adaptive Delta Metropolis.

Cor Schipper of Deltares will also give a presentation about Port of the Future Serious Game.
