Van Oord Working on One of the Largest Reclamation Projects in Taiwan
Van Oord is currently working on the construction of Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Center Phase II in Taiwan.
The Port of Kaohsiung, largest and most important port in Taiwan, each year welcomes more than 10 million containers, which are transshipped through this port.
But the existing port and its industries are too close to the city. The port will need to be expanded in order to separate these industries from residential areas.
Van Oord is working on this project as a main contractor. This project is one of the largest land reclamation projects in the history of Taiwan: 37 million cubic meters of sand to reclaim 250 hectares of land.
The deadline for completing the project is January 2018.
The newly reclaimed land will accommodate many wharves, some of which can handle container ships carrying up to 22,000 twenty-foot containers. Increasing the port’s capacity will certainly benefit Taiwan’s economic development.
