Private Companies Show Interest in Laem Chabang Port

Government of Thailand’s Deputy Transport Minister, Pichit Akrathit, has discussed with private companies the third phase of co-investment plans for Laem Chabang Port, the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNBT) informs.

He met with executive officials of the private firms (Nathalin Group, Ngowhock and Global Inter) to discuss the potential co-investment plans under the Laem Chabang Port Development Program.

Akrathit said that these companies have expressed their opinion about the investment scheme which may start in 2025, according to plan.

The Laem Chabang Port Development Program will first require the Environmental Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) which will take approximately 2 years, followed by the construction of basic infrastructure, the excavation of navigating canals and land reclamation work, set to take approximately 4 years.

According to NNBT, the participating companies called for the Ministry of Transport to expedite the process, as Thailand is in need of more port capacities due to the increasing amount of containers being shipped in the market, and that private companies are ready to invest in the project.
