Cobourg Hosts Midtown Creek Flood Control Public Meeting

The Town of Cobourg will host a public information meeting for the Midtown Creek Flood Control Ponding Area and Kerr Street Extension to Division Street West to the railway spur, Class Environmental Assessment (EA).

The town is conducting a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study to assess the available measures for providing flood protection for structures upstream of the existing railway corridor that crosses Midtown Creek.

The study is being carried out in accordance with the planning and design process for Schedule ‘C’ projects as outlined in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended in 2007), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

The 1st mandatory PIC held on November 29, 2017 presented the problem statement, alternative solutions to the problem statement, and identified the preferred solution which completed Phases 1 and 2 of the EA process.

Currently, the study is at the conclusion of Phase 3 of the EA process where the design alternatives have been evaluated and a preferred design concept has been identified for public comment.

Upon the successful completion of Phase 3, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared and made available for public review and comment. It is expected this study will be completed during the winter of 2017/2018 and the preferred design alternative will go to construction in the summer of 2018.

The public meeting will be held on Thursday, January 25 from 5 until 7 pm in the Cameco ‘C’ Room at the Cobourg Community Center (CCC) at 750 D’Arcy Street.
