VIDEO: All Set for Hay Point Dredging

The North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) said in its latest announcement that they are about to undertake a 40 day maintenance dredging program at the Port of Hay Point.

Environmental monitoring and management measures are already in place, said NQBP.

Maintenance dredging at the Port of Hay Point is critical for maintaining port infrastructure and involves relocating sediment which travels along the coast and accumulates over the years where the shipping operations occur.

The approved Dredge Material Placement Area (DMPA) is 6km north of port operations.

For this project, NQBP will use a specially designed vessel, the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) to undertake the maintenance dredging operations.
