Contract Awarded for Marysville Ring Levee Phase 2AS

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, recently began construction on the next phase of work to improve the 7.6 miles of levee that surrounds Marysville.

Part of the bigger Marysville Ring Levee project, construction on Phase 2A South, which runs along Biz Johnson Drive south of the 5th Street bridge, started April 16.

Work will include partially degrading a section of the waterside embankment, constructing a cutoff wall within the levee embankment degrade, and reconstructing the degraded embankment with an impervious slope blanket.

When completed, the length of the cutoff wall will be approximately 2,622 feet. This phase is expected to be completed within budget and on schedule later this year.

This Phase of the MRL project, 2A South, is being constructed to improve and strengthen the levee along the Feather and Yuba Rivers and to further protect the City of Marysville and its critical infrastructure, which has experienced extensive and repetitive flooding in the past,” said project manager Margaret Engesser.

The Corps awarded a $7.8 million construction contract for work on Phase 2A South to a joint venture between Raito and Great Lakes construction companies.

The Marysville Ring Levee is a joint project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Central Valley Flood Protection Board and Marysville Levee District.

The project is slated to be complete in 2022 and will reduce flood risk for this historic town of 12,000 residents on the Yuba and Feather rivers.
