Arnes Harbor Maintenance Dredging Project on the Way

Fisheries and Oceans Canada has issued its Notice of Determination saying that the proposed Arnes Harbor Manitoba – Routine Maintenance Dredging project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Arnes Harbor is located at the West end of Lake Winnipeg at the mouth of the Drunken River, approximately 112 km North of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

According to the release, the Small Craft Harbors is proposing to undertake routine maintenance dredging at Arnes Harbor.

The scope of this project includes routine maintenance dredging of the harbor channel and commercial fishing loading area to allow safe access for vessels.

As reported, the proposed dredging will be done from the ice by land based equipment and a silt curtain will be used to isolate the area.

All dredged material will be disposed of on land above the high water mark.

The approximate area to be dredged is 1082 square meters, and the approximate total volume of material is 1437 cubic meters.
