USACE seeks input on Coos Bay North Jetty plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (USACE), is seeking public comment on the Coos Bay North Jetty Maintenance and Repairs draft Environmental Assessment (EA) in Coos County, Oregon.

Port of Coos Bay

The draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Council on Environmental Quality’s NEPA regulations (40 C.F.R. parts 1500–1508), and the Corps’ NEPA regulations (33 C.F.R. part 230).

USACE is proposing to stabilize the existing Coos Bay inlet configuration and ensure manageable deep draft navigation by implementing major maintenance and repair activities at the North Jetty.

No repair activities are proposed at the South Jetty as part of this action, said USACE.

Under the proposed work, repair activities will include the critical repairs of the North Jetty structure (jetty head, root, and trunk).

The following three temporary construction features are also a part of the scheme:

• Material offloading facility (MOF);

• Upland staging areas;

• Roadway improvements to facilitate equipment and material delivery.

Public comment will be accepted through June 29th, 2020.
