Construction of the Marker Wadden islands (VIDEO)

More than four years after the start of the construction of the Marker Wadden in the Markermeer Lake, the Netherlands, Boskalis visited this nature reserve to capture the developments on and around the five islands.

Building with Nature techniques played a key role in this innovative project that Boskalis executed for Natuurmonumenten and Rijkswaterstaat.

In order to build the Marker Wadden, the company dredged around 30 million cubic meters of silt, clay, peat and sand from the bed of the lake.

Boskalis used this soft material to create the islands and to restore the lake’s ecological balance at the same time.
