DEME’s subsidiary wins Marken contract

Rijkswaterstaat has awarded the dyke reinforcement contract for the former island of Marken to the Hof van Marken consortium established by DEME Group subsidiary de Vries & van de Wiel and JLD International BV.

Under the contract, the West and South quays of the surrounding dyke need to be reinforced over a length of more than 5 km, in order to meet the current safety standards and to provide flood protection for the next 50 years.

A new higher dyke will be constructed outside the existing dyke, which will in turn, be partially removed.

The surrounding dyke is an iconic backdrop for Marken, with both residents and tourists enjoying recreational activities there. The Hof van Marken consortium is taking this into account in its new design, said DEME.

Construction is expected to start in 2023.
