Representative Kelly: $1.5M secured for Presque Isle sand replenishment

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, will receive $1.5 million for beach nourishment and sand replenishment in the USACE’s fiscal year 2022 Work Plan and FY2023 budget.

“I am very pleased that the Army Corps of Engineers has once again recognized the importance of properly maintaining Presque Isle State Park’s seven-mile shoreline,” Kelly said. 

“These beaches are a natural and economic treasure that serves as an integral part of Erie’s identity. I will continue doing my part to ensure that the beaches remain pristine and healthy for the millions of families and tourists who visit them each year, as well as the hundreds of local jobs they support.”

On February 15, 2022, U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) sent a personal letter to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and the Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to formally request that sand replenishment for Presque Isle remain a high-priority project in the USACE’s FY2022 Work Plan and FY2023.
