Dredging for Maldives airports in full swing

Three airport development projects will be completed this year, while four more projects will commence before the end of the year, said the Maldives President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The President revealed this information while speaking at the function held to inaugurate the new airport developed on the Faresmaathodaa yesterday.

Speaking at the event, the president disclosed that the airport development projects of Muli Island of Meemu Atoll, Magoodhoo Island of Faafu Atoll and Alifushi Island of Raa Atoll will be completed and operational this year.

The President also noted that the ongoing works to further develop and upgrade the airport in Maafaru Island of Noonu Atoll will be completed early next year.

Speaking about the progress of the airport development projects in six islands, opened by the government, the President said that work on four of the projects will be commenced this year.

As such, he noted that the dredging work for the airports in Makunudhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Bilehfahi Island of Shaviyani Atoll, Thulhaadhoo Island of Baa Atoll and Vilufushee Island of Thaa Atoll is now in the final stages of the tender.
