The dredge “Texas” is currently undergoing maintenance repairs in New York. The repairs are expected to be completed by April 8th, with the dredge arriving at Townsend’s Inlet between April 12-14th to begin the beachfill project, the Borough of Avalon said in the update.

The first piece of equipment scheduled to arrive will be a large loader on April 6th. The first landing station for pipe for the beachfill project is anticipated to be between 11th and 12th streets, although sand will be placed north to 9th Street.

The Corps is reviewing the final pre-construction surveys and will determine in 1-2 weeks how far the project will extend south.

Once the project begins, 25 days of sand pumping will occur on the north end beaches 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The project only stops for unsafe weather conditions or mechanical failure.

Eventually, there will be a visible booster pump station located offshore of Avalon to take sand to Stone Harbor after Avalon’s project is completed.

Currently, this project is anticipated to be completed in Avalon before Memorial Day weekend; Stone Harbor’s project may run until June 27th.
