This funding, anticipated to be included in the upcoming spending bill, is crucial for safeguarding Barcelona Harbor in the Town of Westfield from further damage caused by storms.

According to Chautauqua County officials, the funding will allow USACE to repair the Barcelona Harbor breakwater and dredge, design, and upgrade it later in the years.

If we had done this yesterday, you would’ve seen waves shooting 40 to 50 feet over the edge of the breakwall, all the way down both breakwalls with a waterfall, carrying rocks, sand, and debris over the edge. So, we do need to repair this aging breakwater in order to keep our harbor functioning,” said Town of Westfield Supervisor Martha Bills.

Once the budget is voted and money is there USACE will start the work on the project within the next few months.
