Spotlight on northern breakwater project at Jurien Bay

The northern breakwater at Jurien Bay Boat Harbor is set to be extended by 170m in a $17.5 million entrance reconfiguration, following the confirmation of funding as part of the State Budget, said Transport WA.

The reconfiguration of the harbor entrance will divert approximately 80% of the wrack movement into the harbor, limiting potential for decomposition and deoxygenation of the water.

The Department of Transport also conducts maintenance dredging at the boat harbor (approximately every 2 years) to remove accumulated marine sand and seagrass.

According to DoT, the project will also reduce the frequency of maintenance dredging work required and stimulate private investment through a lease hold development within the harbor.

Funding for the project was announced in April 2024.
