Supplemental EA and FONSI for Depoe Bay Maintenance Dredging

The USACE Portland District has finalized the Depoe Bay Maintenance Dredging Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) in Lincoln County, Oregon and signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).

The SEA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Council on Environmental Quality’s NEPA regulations (40 CFR §§ 1500–1508), and the Corps’ NEPA regulations (33 CFR Part 230)

The action analyzed in the SEA is maintenance dredging of the Depoe Bay Catch Basin located behind the South Depoe Bay Creek Sediment Check Dam and supplements the Environmental Assessment (EA), dated June 30, 2015, that disclosed maintenance dredging activities for the Depoe Bay entrance channel, boat basin, and catch basin.

The Corps revised the Proposed Action to include options of dewatering material from the Depoe Bay Catch Basin prior to dredging and transporting it via truck to an upland site approximately two miles away.

USACE has determined that the Proposed Action is not likely to result in significant impacts on the human environment, and therefore an environmental impact statement (EIS) will not be prepared.

The FONSI is included with the final SEA. The final SEA also includes a summary of comments received on the Draft SEA, said USACE.
