The authorities in Abu Dhabi are reportedly on track to complete by US$409m project to construct a channel that will improve access to the Mussafah industrial zone by the middle of 2010.

The channel, which requires the dredging of a 63km, 200m wide channel with a depth of 9m, is being built to replace an existing approach channel that is too constrained to meet future needs. Navigation along the existing channel is also adversely affected by sandbanks and shallows. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2010.
