Australia: Port of Portland Dredging Moves Ahead

Port of Portland Dredging Moves Ahead

In an effort to allow bigger vessels to enter the regional Victorian port, dredging work is currently underway at the Port of Portland.

Dredging work of the berth pocket at the end of Portland berth no.6 started last week and is expected to take about one month.

Authorities hired Maritime Constructions, Adelaide based firm for this job.

Port of Portland Dredging Moves Ahead.

The Port of Portland is a deep-water bulk port strategically located between the ports of Melbourne and Adelaide. It is the international gateway for the Green Triangle Region, an area blessed with an abundance of natural resources.

The Port is served by both road and rail systems, which bypass the City of Portland to allow 24-hour access. It delivers $2 billion into the region and the nation each year – a figure that will continue to grow.
