Russia: Dredging Project Boosts Port Vysotsky’s Cargo Traffic

The volume of cargo handled by Port Vysotsky LLC in January-November rose by 38 percent over the same period of 2010, to 2,938,000 tons.

In November 2011, Port Vysotsky handled 228,825 tons of export thermal coal.

Port Vysotsky LLC operating the coal terminal specializes in handling the commodity exported to Western Europe. In 2010, Port Vysotsky exported 2.3 million tons of coal versus 2.9 million a year earlier.

Last December, the stevedore company completed dredging of harbor waters and approach channel, which were deepened to 12.7 meters.

The channel has now 200 m in width. Maximum draft of vessels was increased from 9,3 m to 11,9 m. This enables access of 45,000DWT bulkers to the coal terminal.
