USA: Blind Pass Dredging Plan Gets Green Light

On Dec. 9, the state of Florida issued a permit that would allow Lee County to dredge Blind Pass.

The county expects a federal permit sometime in January.

County officials hope to remove 100,000 cubic yards of sand that has flowed into the pass since it was opened by a $3.2 million project in 2009.

The county could save several hundred thousand dollars in mobilization costs if the work is done by Florida Dredge and Dock of Tarpon Springs, which recently completed a renourishment project on Fort Myers Beach and already has equipment on the site.
