USA: Marinex Bags Two Dredging Projects

Marinex Construction, Inc., Charleston, S.C., was awarded a $10,648,750 firm-fixed-price dredging contract.

The award will provide for the dredging services from Savannah and Brunswick Inner Harbor.

Work will be performed in Savannah, Ga., with an estimated completion date of Jan. 13, 2013.

The Savannah Inner Harbor requires up to seven million cubic yards of annual maintenance dredging by cutterhead dredge, placing the material in eight diked disposal areas on the north side of the channel.

Savannah’s inner harbor channel is 21 miles long, 42 feet deep and 500 feet wide, with a sediment basin that allows removal of harbor sediment at a reduced cost.

Marinex Construction, Inc. is operated by its President, F. Hammond Johnson, who has been in the dredging business since 1969.

Marinex is specialize in marine construction with an emphasis on channel and fill dredging and river and harbor improvements.

The company employs more than 100 people, many of whom with dredging experience spanning over 30 years.
