Singapore: Reclamation Work at Jurong Island Begins

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) informs the shipping, harbour craft and pleasure craft communities in Singapore’s waters that Jurong Island reclamation project starts.

The work will entail the removal of existing rocks, dredging and reclamation works in the working area.

Shore protection works will be carried out by crane barges and dredger. Soil investigation works will also be carried out in the working area.

“Singapore had not allowed the disruption to the import of sea sand to delay the reclamation plans, instead using alternative sources of sand supply and exploring other ways to meet the need.” said Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang.

The Minister also said “the plan is to position the island as the industrial development model of the future – coupling world-class competitiveness with sustainable and responsible development growth.
