Expo Chief Supports UAE’s Bid to Host 2020 World Expo

DP World welcomed yesterday Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the international body responsible for World Fairs and Expos, to its flagship facility, Jebel Ali Port, actively supporting the UAE’s bid to host the 2020 World Expo.

Mr. Loscertales is visiting the UAE to gain an insight into the facilities and services the UAE offers as it bids to host the huge, global, non-commercial World Expo in 2020.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, received Mr. Loscertales and his delegation at the port, in the presence of HE Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State and member of the Higher Committee for World Expo 2020, Mohammed Ali Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer, DP World, UAE Region and other senior company officials.

Mr. Loscertales and Ms. Laurence Levy, Coordinator for 2020 candidates, and Mr. Dimitri Kerkentzes, BIE Head of Cabinet, toured the Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone and expressed interest in the port’s technology-driven operations management and container handling facilities. They were also briefed on DP World’s plans to expand Jebel Ali Port’s capacity by 5 million TEU to 19 million TEU by 2014.
