China: Yangshan Port Thinks Big

Yangshan Port Thinks Big

Recently Shanghai Guandong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. affiliated to Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. and ZPMC entered into an agreement on procurement of 2 quayside container cranes.

With the design lifting capacity of 150 tons when using a single lifting beam and 115 tons when using two lifting instruments for 40-feet containers, the dual-lifting quayside container crane to be purchased will become the largest quayside container crane in the world.

Operated and managed by SGICT, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 of Yangshan Deepwater Port are located in the north-central area of Yangshan Deepwater Port. Along the 2600 m shoreline, there are 7 berths for container ships of 70,000 DWT to 150,000 DWT. The 26 quayside container cranes and 70 rubber-tyred gantry cranes equipped at the two terminals are all provided by ZPMC.

The quayside container cranes to be delivered at the end of the year will be applicable for 8000 TEU container ships that have the capacity of 24 rows of containers, laying a solid foundation for SGICT to realize 6.6 million tons of throughput in 2012.
