Indonesia: Pelindo II Builds Three New Ports

Pelindo II Builds Three New Ports

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II is targeting first pole erection (ground breaking) for the construction of three new ports in 2012.

The three projects are North Kalibaru Port (Jakarta), Sorong (Papua), and Batam (Riau Islands) with a total funding requirement of Rp 16.75 trillion (USD 1.9b) .

The port development is in line with the expectations of various circles to make 2012 the year of investment, in order to realise infrastructure projects in the country that have been planned since 2011. Those ports are urgent to be built because they can help the government overcome the high cost of logistics in the country. For example, Sorong Container Port will become a hub in the eastern region, which will lower the cost of logistics in eastern Indonesia by up to 50 percent.
