Indonesia: Cilincing Dredging Project Kicks Off

The Jakarta Post reports that North Jakarta Public Works Agency has started the dredging of a garbage-clogged Gubuk Genteng tributary in Cilincing.

Residents living around the waterway hoped that the dredging could minimize inundation in their neighborhoods, which often reached waist high levels on rainy days.

Sukapura subdistrict head Muzakir stated that the dredging of the east side of the waterway will be completed this week and the work will continue on the west side.

He also said that the tributary had been clogged by garbage and mud sedimentation over the past five years.
