Angola Invests Big in Port of Lobito Development

As Port Technology reports, the government of Angola has invested US$1.2 billion in the modernization and expansion of the Commercial Port of Lobito, according to the Chairman of the port company, Anapaz de Jesus Neto.

This Lobito Port expansion project will increase the African port’s annual capacity to 11 million tonnes.

The investment also covers the extension of the port’s quay to enable the docking of 12 vessels simultaneously. Currently, Lobito Port can only handle eight ships at any one time.

In addition, the funds have also been used to construct a dry dock facility for the handling of Lobito’s containerized trade and other port services.
